This is an ecological red tea from the Ilam Region of Nepal. Ilam is Nepal's oldest tea producing region and it is situated along the Eastern border of the county in the foothills of the Himalayas. The world's 3rd tallest mountain Kanchenjunga is about 150 miles north of this area. The tea is from a pristine garden and no agrochemicals have been used on the land. It is cultivated without the use of fertilizer of any kind.
The weather there this year was a bit out of the ordinary with more rain and even hailstones in the spring. This year we find that the tea is more chocolatey with little to no tannin or astringency. As such you can push the tea to higher concentrations without much drawback. This is also a great tea for thermos brewing!
