This is a wonderful tea and one we’re sharing because we find it to be so accessible in terms of flavor. It’s just incredibly drinkable, vibrant and refreshing. It’s easy to brew and we think it offers something for everyone regardless of your knowledge of tea. It is a wonderful tea for a focused session and at the same time it is delightful on the go thrown into a mug or thermos. You can steep it over and over again and it keeps giving up flavor. While the tea is technically a puerh tea it drinks a lot like a green tea, so fans of that genre should not miss this. It’s much more forgiving in terms of water temp and brew time. Throw whatever you want at it and it will be an amazing experience.
The proper name of the tea is Kunlu Qaio Mu which designates the place and nature of the trees. The trees are proper arbor trees in their early 50’s. The tea is made from a cultivated variety rather than the wild variety you also see in Kunlu.
For those who don't know Kunlu is a special region with historic significance. During the Qing Dynasty it was an Imperial Tribute Tea Garden. Basically the government designated official cultivated gardens to produce “tribute teas” which were essentially gifts to the Emperor at the time. These areas were chosen because the of the unique teas produced there. The gardens themselves were under strict care and the tea was processed with great considerable attention. Kunlu was one such place and this tea comes from that tribute garden area.
